Stratford Democratic Party Condemns The BOE Vote To Terminate Superintendent Dr. Uyi Osunde

Stratford, CT – June 21, 2024 – The Stratford Democratic Town Committee strongly condemns the recent vote to terminate Dr. Uyi Osunde, Superintendent of Schools, following a baseless and politically motivated investigation by the Republican-controlled Board of Education (Michael Henrick, Kristen Bedell, Sean Kennedy, and William O’Brien). Their decision, driven by a vindictive agenda, undermines the integrity of our educational system and disrespects the commitment Dr. Osunde has shown to our students, parents, and teachers.

Last night’s vote was the culmination of an unnecessarily lengthy and unfounded investigation, which has been nothing more than a witch hunt orchestrated by Republican leaders, including Lou DeCilio and Mayor Laura Hoydick. This vendetta against Dr. Osunde is a stark example of the deep-seated corruption within Town Hall and an affront to the values of fairness and justice that our community holds dear.

We firmly trust the judgment of the Democratic BOE members, Lisa Carroll-Fabian, Chris Cormier, and Jill D’Angelo-Powers, who found no suggestive evidence that warranted termination and believe the public agrees with them.

Dr. Osunde has been a dedicated and transformative leader for Stratford’s schools, championing initiatives that prioritize the well-being and academic success of our children. His termination is not only unjust but also detrimental to the progress and stability of our school system.

Dr. Osunde will now be forced to plead his case to the Board of Education, who will judge and jury of his fate. We are calling on the community to speak out against their unethical actions and this injustice by joining us and working towards restoring integrity in Stratford’s governance. Together, we can ensure that our town is led by those who are truly committed to serving the best interests of its residents.
